Kill Dil is a 2014 Indian romantic comedy film, directed by Shaad Ali and produced by Aditya Chopra and Yash Raj Films. The Hindi and Tamil versions of the film were released simultaneously on 28 September 2014 The protagonist, Jai (Ranbir Kapoor), is a struggling actor who supports his family financially as he follows his dreams. He meets Bhoomi (Diana Penty), a business tycoon's daughter, for whom he falls head over heels in love with. Their families fight their marriage as Bhoomi does not know about Jai's profession and her dad doesn't want to share the company with him. In the Tamil dubbed version, the name of the lead actress was changed from Diana Penty to Vaani Kapoor. The film had a simultaneous release with Hindi on 28 September 2014. Music is composed by Mithoon, Amaal Mallik, Ankit Tiwari and Badshah while lyrics have been penned by Vayu, Amitabh Bhattacharya and Badshah. According to Box Office India, "Kill Dil" grossed in India on its opening day as it released across 2200 screens worldwide. It earned from North Indian circuits while earning from South Indian circuits as well as overseas market. The Indian and overseas rights were acquired by YRF and Reliance Entertainment respectively. The Hindi version released on 28 September 2014 received mixed reviews from critics. "Times of India" gave 2.5 stars out of 5 to the film and said that the story is slow in parts and that "Cast, production values and direction are just not up to the mark.". Sukanya Verma of Rediff gave 2 stars out of 5 saying that the "story itself is a little disappointing." Baradwaj Rangan in his review for The Hindu said: ""Kill Dil" never quite works as a coherent, engaging film because it fails to establish any connection between its protagonist and his audience. It's a depressing story of a struggling actor who can't live a life of his own.". The Tamil version released on 24 September 2014 received positive critical reviews from critics. A critic from "Mumbai Mirror" rated the film as 2 stars out of 5 and said that the film is an "Unnecessary ride" and that "Ranbir Kapoor as Jai (s) (Jodi) is such an irritating protagonist.". Sukanya Verma on Rediff gave 3 stars out of 5 saying: "The first half of ‘Kill Dil’ lacks the punch and pace you would like it to have. Just like your initial impression of Ranbir Kapoor’s Jai, the film starts off on a rather unimpressive note.". A critic from "Sify" said that the film is "an entertaining watch" and that "the movie is fast paced and has an interesting second half." A critic from Behindwoods gave 2.5 out of 5 stars and said that it is "A harmless fare" and that ""Kill Dil" lacks the power of an intense love story".
